THE LOGO
It was in the fall of 1972 that the logo came about. My roommate at the time, who was an artist, volunteered to make a logo for me. I had no preconceived
notions as to what it should look like and he didn’t give me any hints as to what he was going to do. When he showed me the finished product I was blown
away. A perfect representation of what the lighting for bands was at that time. It had candles that were making smoke in the form of the letters to the
name with a sun in the background. The creator was the late Dan “Wild Man” Knutson and it was used for letterhead, business cards, shirts, road cases and
whatever else you can think of. It was even hand painted on the sides of the van that I was driving at the time. It would be revised in about 1976 but that
will be another part to the story.
Here is copy of the original letterhead and envelope from the show. Thanks to my brother Jon for saving a copy of this all these years.
Here is a business card from the show. The address for the business was my apartment in Hopkins, Minnesota.
The world headquarters of FLS from 1974 to 1977.
Around 1976 I decided that the logo needed to be updated. The show was evolving and the business needed to as well. I had an idea for what I wanted it to
look like but no artistic ability. The bass player for Visage, Dan Volenec, put his artistic abilities to work and the result was just what I was looking
for. Here is a business card that shows the updated look. I also took out a P O Box for the company so that moving from place to place wouldn't require
having new cards and letterhead printed. The card shows "Custom Fabrication." That part of the story will be coming in the history
section.
